    Post-doc, ATER and academic careers

Please note that if you want to do a post-doc in the academic year following your thesis (starting in October if you defend before September, or starting in January or February if you defend in December, for example), you may need to apply well in advance. This is often the case for the USA (typically before November of your third year of thesis) and for some foundations, including FMSP and FMJH.

Here are a few sites where post-doc positions are available:

    • Opération postes: a very general French website.
    • GALAXIE: The ALTAIR section for ATER positions (applications for ATER positions are generally submitted between April and May, but this depends on each university. It is advisable to check from January onwards).
    • FMJH: Post-Doc Program and Hadamard Readers
    • FSMP: Post-Doc Program
    • IHES: Post-Doc Program
    • ABG: Association Bernard Gregory
    • MathJobs: U.S. website (beware of deadlines in the U.S., which are often around November of the previous year)
    • jobs.ac.uk: English website (see “Academic jobs”)
